Petaling Jaya – Already a much-talked-about on Chinese social media even before its release, Rule the World, a new historical romance drama is now on dimsum, streaming two episodes every Tuesday to Thursday from 12am, after its broadcast in China.
Rule the World is a loose adaptation of the novel of the same name which has been in circulation since 2006 and is popular among Chinese netizens. Raymond Lam plays Hong Tai Ji, one of the co-establishers of the Manchu-ruled Qing Dynasty. Tina Tang stars as Bu You Ran/ Dong Ge, Ray Zhang as Dai Shan, and Qu Xiao Chu as Dorgon, Huang Tai Ji’s brother.
It begins when Bu You Ran (Tina Tang), a novelist, finds herself drawn to the story of Dong Ge (Tina Tang) who was known as the most beautiful woman among the Jurchen people. She was born with a prophecy that can “make or break a nation”, thus her great look and fame provoke became the centre of power struggles of many men. For political reasons, her brother presented her to Nu Er Ha Chi (Jing Gang Shan) as a gift. At the same time, she faced Chu Ying’s (Wang Kai Yi) advances, Dai Shan’s (Zhang Rui) tenderness, Dorgon (Qu Chu Xiao) unruliness and Hong Tai Ji’s (Raymond Lam) incomparable love. Dong Ge and Huang Tai Ji were separated by accident and they only reunited after great hardships to witness the establishment of the Qing Dynasty by Hong Tai Ji.
Raymond Lam is a Hong Kong actor best known for his roles in the dramas “A Step into the Past”, “Moonlight Resonance”, “Highs and Lows” and “Line Walker”. Rule the World is his third drama as a king, and his first Qing dynasty role.
Tina Tang Yi Xin shines in several costume dramas from “The Legend of Zhen Huan” to “The Advisors Alliance” as supporting roles, and in her latest drama Rule the World, she plays the leading role Dong Ge which is also the centre of the story.
