MTG’s TV channels and streaming service Viaplay will be the exclusive home of the World Boxing Super Series in the Nordic and Baltic regions. Fight fans can follow every punch live as the world’s top cruiserweight and super middleweight boxers – including Swedish and Latvian superstars Erik Skoglund and Mairis Briedis – compete for the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
Seven world title belts and USD $50 million in prize money are on the line in the first season of the World Boxing Super Series, which brings together 16 elite boxers in the cruiserweight and super middleweight weight classes for a unique bracket-style elimination tournament.
The quarter-finals (autumn 2017), semi-finals (early 2018) and grand final in May 2018 will provide fans with a total of 14 high quality fight nights staged in premier venues around the globe.
Peter Nørrelund, MTG EVP and CEO of MTG Sport: “This tournament is what boxing fans everywhere have been dreaming about – an elimination format with the best fighting the best for a prize named after the greatest fighter of all time. Nine of the boxers taking part have never lost a fight, and the combined record for all 16 participants is an astonishing 423 wins and 294 KOs. Get ready to rumble as we bring fantastic live fight action to our platforms across the Nordic and Baltic regions – the recent Mayweather vs McGregor fight was MTG’s most successful ever, so we’re even more excited about what’s to come.”
The first quarter-final fight is on 9 September when Oleksandr Usyk takes on Marco Huck in Berlin, and will be shown on a combination of MTG’s Nordic and Baltic TV channels and streaming service Viaplay. MTG broadcasts more than 50,000 hours of high quality live sport every year on its TV channels and streaming services, including NHL and KHL ice hockey, UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, La Liga, Formula One, NFL American football, boxing, UFC and golf.
