MTG has secured the exclusive Nordic media rights to the DKB Handball-Bundesliga for the next six seasons – bringing world class handball action to fans in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden on TV, online and mobile.
Officially ranked Europe’s number one handball league by the European Handball Federation, the DKB Handball-Bundesliga is contested by Germany’s top 18 teams and features many of the sport’s leading players, including Nordic superstars Niklas Landin Jacobsen and Rasmus Lauge Schmidt (Denmark), Harald Reinkind and Christian O’Sullivan (Norway), and Jim Gottfridsson and Niclas Ekberg (Sweden).
MTG’s Viasat TV channels and Viaplay streaming service will show up to three live matches from the DKB Handball-Bundesliga each week from the 2017/2018 season, which starts 24 August 2017.
Viasat and Viaplay will also show the three REWE Final Four matches in the DHB-Pokal along with the Pixum Super Cup and the annual HBL All-Star Game between the league’s top players and the German national handball team.
In addition to the DKB Handball-Bundesliga, MTG holds the media rights to the annual EHF Cup and EHF Champions League; and the men’s and women’s 2018 and 2020 EHF European Handball Championship.
Peter Nørrelund, MTG EVP and CEO of MTG Sport: “MTG is the undisputed leader in premium sports in the Nordic region and therefore the perfect home for the world’s best handball league. Extending these exclusive rights is great news for the super-passionate handball fans in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The DKB Handball-Bundesliga offers non-stop action – last season, each match produced an average of 54 goals – and we’re making it available on more screens than ever before.”
Frank Bohmann, CEO of DKB Handball-Bundesliga:”We are looking forward to continuing our successful cooperation with MTG for six more years. MTG is the benchmark regarding sport and entertainment and with its outstanding expertise in handball it is by far the best solution for DKB Handball-Bundesliga.”
DKB Handball-Bundesliga was consulted in this deal by antesi media GmbH, the newly founded Munich based media agency.
MTG broadcasts more than 50,000 hours of high quality live sport every year on its TV channels and streaming services, including NHL and KHL ice hockey, UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, Formula One, NFL American football, boxing, UFC and golf.
