Kuala Lampur – Malaysian author, Maslina Yusoff signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with one of South Korea’s leading studios, H Culture to adapt her children’s book series titled Mila to a 52-episode animation series for the international market. The MoU was signed at the tenth Kuala Lumpur Trade and Copyright Centre (KLTCC), a platform to enrich the ASEAN licensing and publishing industry through intellectual properties (IP) trade and digital convergence, organised by Perbadanan Kota Buku.
The MoU is a success story for KLTCC as Maslina met Mr. Sukhwa Hong, President and Animation Director of H Culture at KLTCC 2015 after her book achieved major publishing success in China as it was translated and published in the country in 2014, before it was published in Malaysia by Fazamas Books and Buku Prima as well as Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.
Mila, currently a 9-series book follows the adventure of Mila, a little girl with a big curly hair inspired by Maslina’s daughter. As for the animation series, Maslina is set to expand the characters in Mila’s world and while the animation will be directed by an animation director, Maslina will take part as a scriptwriter and supervise the characters’ development.
Furthermore, H Culture will debut a 2-minute trailer for the animation series in September this year to pitch for potential buyers in France, UK and Poland, which have expressed their interest for the animation series which will target 3 to 9 years old children. The development is set to take two years to complete and the series will be in English for the international market. In addition to developing the animation, H Culture will also be the sole agency to market the animation series globally. The Mila series is currently a Top 50 bestseller on Amazon China.
