Idris Elba will both appear and executive produce Guerrilla, through his company Green Door Pictures Global content creator, producer and distributor Endemol Shine Group announced multiple deals for the highly anticipated British drama Guerrilla have been closed. Starring Freida Pinto and Babou Ceesay and created by Academy Award winner John Ridley, Guerrilla has sold to HBO Nordics, BBC Worldwide ANZ and Dazzler Media.
The HBO Nordics deal will see Guerrilla air across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, with HBO España and HBO Europe broadcasting in Spain, Andorra and across Central and Eastern Europe while the BBC Worldwide ANZ agreement will see the drama air on premium channel BBC First in Australia. Meanwhile, Dazzler Media has picked up home entertainment rights for the UK and Ireland.
Guerrilla is a love story set against the backdrop of one of the most politically explosive times in UK history. It tells the story of Marcus (Babou Ceesay) and Jas (Freida Pinto) whose relationship and values are tested when they liberate a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell in 1970s London. Their ultimate target becomes the Black Power Desk, a true-life, secretive counter-intelligence unit within a Special Branch dedicated to crushing all forms of black activism.
Academy Award winner John Ridley has written the majority of the series with British writer Misan Sagay writing episode five. Ridley serves as executive producer and will direct half of the series together with Sam Miller. Commissioned for Sky by Head of Drama Anne Mensah and Director of Sky Atlantic Zai Bennett, the series will be a co-production between Fifty Fathoms and ABC Signature. Alongside John Ridley through his company International Famous Players Radio Picture Corporation, the executive producers will be Patrick Spence and Katie Swinden for Fifty Fathoms , Tracy Underwood for ABC Signature, Idris Elba for Green Door Pictures and Michael McDonald for Stearns Castle.
