Kate Harwood, Managing Director of Euston Films (part of FremantleMedia UK) has announced the creation of Euston North, based in Manchester. The new regional hub will be headed up by former BBC Head of Drama England, North, Hilary Martin. Simon Judd, former Development Executive at BBC Drama North, will join Hilary as Head of Development
Long-associated with iconic drama, Euston Films was rebooted as a production company in 2014 – its aim to produce high-end drama with global reach. The indie is currently in pre-production with Hard Sun, a brand new 6-part drama series for BBC One, written by Neil Cross (Luther).
The newly formed Euston North will set out to further establish Euston Films as a leading force in modern television drama. Reporting into Kate, Hilary and Simon will grow a drama slate that both nurtures the writer’s voice and brings it to screen with scale and ambition.
Hilary’s early career began as a script editor for Granada, Red and World Productions before becoming a producer at ITV and working in the commissioning department at Sky. She joined the BBC in 2008. Hilary and Simon established a vibrant, prolific department where they were responsible for such acclaimed series as the BAFTA award-winning In the Flesh, The Secret of Crickley Hall, South Riding and the upcoming In the Dark. Hilary and Simon join Euston North in January 2017.
