Munich – With three international premieres featuring multiple award-winning directors and a star-driven international cast, Beta Film is setting highlights at this year’s MIPCOM. The red carpet at the Grand Auditorium will be rolled out for Academy Award-nominated Oliver Hirschbiegel’s multi-layered drama The Same Sky, set 1970’s Berlin and starring The Bridge’s Sofia Helin and Tom Schilling, among others. In the interactive legal thriller The Verdict with Burghart Klaussner and Lars Eidinger, the audience will take the judge’s seat and decide: “guilty” or “not guilty”.
Maximilian and Marie de Bourgogne by International Emmy Award-winner Andreas Prochaska, an emotional drama about power, struggle and love starring Jean-Hugues Anglade and Christa Théret, concludes the premiere triple. Beta’s outstanding lineup also highlights the new HBO Europe series Wasteland, an intense psychological drama and riveting mystery set in the Rust Belt at the Czech/Polish border and the series Rocco Schiavone , which follows in the footsteps of high-level Italian crime stories with a police officer who must keep his mood swings at bay.
As one of today´s leading British authors Paula Milne created and wrote The Same Sky, portraying the fates of two families on both sides of the wall while recreating the charged atmosphere of the Cold War city. The Same Sky is produced by UFA Fiction in co-production with Beta Film for ZDF and Czech TV in association with Rainmark Films.
The Verdict will be broadcasted simultaneously in October on primetime in various countries. The high-end series production, uniting a grandiose cast, highly detailed sets, as well as sumptuous costumes and furnishings, is produced by MR Film, Beta Film, ORF, and ZDF.
