Santa Monica– Televisa USA Development, LLC (Televisa USA), a subsidiary of the Mexican media company Grupo Televisa, S.A.B. (Grupo Televisa) and Lantica Media announced they are developing and co-producing Gran Hotel. The series will be shot at Lantica’s Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios and an original script adapted to pre-Castro Havana by Emmy-winning and -nominated showrunner Stephen Kronish, with Lantica set to co-develop and co-finance multiple projects with Televisa USA.
Based on the award-winning hit series originating in Spain, Televisa USA transforms this Beta Film GmbH format brought to it from scripted format sales company Pomodoro Stories into a thriller blending danger and passion set in 1950s Cuba. Following his sister’s disappearance, Julio is led on a dangerous journey that takes him to the opulent Gran Hotel, a frequent getaway for the rich, powerful, famous and infamous, and into the arms of the sexy daughter of the hotel’s wealthy owner.
Philip and David Sigurani, Director of Scripted Development, will oversee the production of Gran Hotel for Televisa USA, with production executive Albert Martinez Martin spearheading Lantica Media’s involvement.
The collaboration between the production partners will take advantage of the country’s diverse filming locations, as well as the soundstages and other state-of-the-art production facilities at Pinewood Dominican Republic Studios.
Terrestrial network Antena 3 in Spain commissioned and aired a three-season run of the Spanish-language version of the critically acclaimed hit series produced and created by Bambu Producciones from 2011-13. During its first season, Gran Hotel reached an 18.5 percent share of viewers in Spain and was also sold to broadcast outlets in France, the U.K. and Russia.
