Globo’s super production Precious Pearl, one of Globo’s highlights for Natpe Europe, debuted in Albania on 15 June. The winner of the 2014 International Emmy for Best Telenovela will be aired with subtitles in Albanian in the 7.30pm timeslot, by Top Channel. The channel is a long-time partner of Globo in Eastern Europe and has previously licensed hits such as Snakes & Lizards, India – A Love Story, Tropical Paradise, and Brave Woman, among others.
Precious Pearl has cinematic scenes filmed in the Himalayas and exquisite period sets and costumes which contribute to the unique atmosphere of the story, which takes place in the 1930s and 40s. In Brazil, the telenovela reached more than 26 million per day (Source: Ibope). In Portugal, Precious Pearl also had a positive run. Shown on Globo basic channel, the programme was among the five most-watched programs on cable TV in the country daily (Source: GFK). And on Teledoce (Uruguay), Precious Pearl was the second most watched programme in the country for its timeslot in its first week on the air.
Other countries have also been enchanted by the beautiful telenovela, which portrays the love of working-class Amélia (Bianca Bin, The Enchanted Tale), and millionaire Franz Hauser (Bruno Gagliasso, The Enchanted Tale), and of little Pearl, the couple’s daughter. The show debuted recently on the Omni channel (Canada), aimed at the Portuguese-speaking community. In addition, the channels Telemundo (United States), Armenia Public TV (Armenia), TV5 (Mongolia), and the EPG media group (South Korea), among others, have also placed their bets on the super production.
Precious Pearl also has actors José de Abreu and Marcos Caruso (Brazil Avenue), Carolina Dieckmann (Her Own Destiny), Nathalia Dill (The Enchanted Tale), Thiago Lacerda and Rafael Cardoso (The Life We Lead), and Mariana Ximenes (Pepper Chocolate), among others.
