The year of 2015 marks a major change for Globo in Angola and Mozambique. Starting 1 July, the Brazilian network’s programming will be aired in these countries exclusively through ZAP – Angola’s largest satellite TV service operator. In addition to all of the popular contents, which have become a part of the daily lives of Angolans and Mozambicans, Globo will now offer two brand new features: HD signal, with high-definition images, and a new channel, Globo ON, featuring the telenovelas, miniseries, and comedies that won over millions of people around the world.
Consistently following the growth of cable TV in Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa, particularly Angola and Mozambique, this change represents an important opportunity for Globo to offer more content and better quality programming to the population.
Ricardo Scalamandré, Globo’s Head of International Business, introduces the changes recognising the long-lasting affection of Angolan and Mozambican viewers for Globo.
“We’ve been in Angola since the 1980’s, when we started broadcasting the first telenovelas in the country; our content has always been welcomed both here and in Mozambique. The move to ZAP, a company that understands and invests in the development of these countries, is our way to honour viewers. We want to be closer to our audience,” said the executive.
For ZAP, this change also conveys the same feeling of gratitude to the people who helped the company grow and become a cable TV market leader.
“2015 marks our 5th anniversary of operations and the partnership with Globo is the best gift we could offer to our customers,” said Nuno Aguiar, ZAP’s CEO.
Globo believes that TV creates a unique feeling among the viewers who watch and relate to it. In all parts of the world, from children to adults, they are all connected as one with the same emotion. TV, its contents, programs and news are all part of people’s lives; they are often topics of conversations with friends and family. This is what fuels Globo’s restlessness, creativity, and innovation, which has always been in its DNA, driving the company to new paths.
Globo in ZAP
All of Globo’s current programming available to Angola and Mozambique viewers will be aired by ZAP, with enhanced quality. With this change, new key features provide a rich and exciting experience to viewers, such as high definition broadcasting. Globo will now be aired in two frequencies: on channel 10 (in HD) and channel 11 (in SD).
But this new technology is not the only viewer benefit generated by the partnership. The launch of a new channel, Globo ON, will provide even more content to Angola and Mozambique. Dedicated to hit telenovelas, series and sitcoms that marked an era and people from all over the world, this is an added quality entertainment option.
“Globo ON means even more Globo in Angola and Mozambique. We have become even closer to people’s lives, providing them with more stories, more love, more laughter, more action,” said Scalamandré.
Hit shows such as Snakes and Lizards, The Thorn and the Rose, Pages of Life, The King of the Cattle, Her Own Destiny, Young Hearts, and O Beijo do Vampiro (original title in Portuguese) are already confirmed in the channel grid.
A campaign to celebrate
Globo’s partnership with ZAP will be celebrated and announced through an extensive advertising campaign, created by the Havas Worldwide agency. Divided into three phases, the campaign will cover commercials, radio spots, print and online ads, billboards, promotions in ZAP retail stores and authorised distributors. Everything needed to dress Angola and Mozambique up with the campaign’s colours and get people in the party mood, featuring a custom-made Samba rhythm.
The initial campaign phase was launched on 1 June, branded by the yellow colour. In this first phase, the purpose is to kick-off communication, letting everyone know that Globo will be aired by ZAP. On TV, commercials will feature actors such as Lázaro Ramos, Flávia Alessandra, Débora Nascimento, and Milton Gonçalves, inviting Angolans and Mozambicans to enjoy Globo in its new home. In addition to TV commercials, these celebrities also recorded radio spots speaking directly to the audience. Both marketing products feature the Globo in ZAP samba underscore. Also during the first phase, retail stores will be decorated with campaign elements to get the party mood going. Printed and online media will also run ads about the partnership created to bring Globo even closer to Angolans and Mozambicans
