BBC Worldwide Latin America announced the launch of a new CBeebies app, featuring a Subscription Video-on-Demand (SVOD) service that will enable parents and caretakers to stream content for preschoolers on mobile devices. The app will offer complete episodes of children’s programming in Spanish, along with educational games and information about parenting for adults, in a secure digital environment.
The CBeebies app offers young viewers the opportunity to enjoy their favourite shows away from their living rooms and complements the network’s current TV offering. CBeebies is the UK’s number one children’s channel and the only one recommended by the Mexican Pediatrics Association (AMP) for its educational value and high-quality content.
This new app will be available for mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – using iOS and Android systems with a seven-day free trial. Following the trial period, subscription to the service will cost US$4.99 per month (prices vary by country).
“We are constantly looking for new ways to engage our audiences, whose loyalty is key to the future of our business. Our new app enables us to expand the CBeebies experience beyond the TV screen to a new generation of viewers, providing them with access to their favourite content at their convenience,” said Fred Medina, executive VP and managing director at BBC Worldwide Latin America & U.S. Hispanic.
The new CBeebies app will launch in Mexico on 5 May and will subsequently expand to the rest of Latin America, including Brazil –with content dubbed into Portuguese – and the U.S. Hispanic market.
During the launch phase, users will be able to stream a selection of international hit CBeebies titles such as Charlie & Lola, Sarah & Duck (winner of the 2014 BAFTA award for Preschool Animation), and The Numtums, a series that instils a love of numbers in young audiences. Over time, the CBeebies app will add more new episodes and series to its content offering, all of them dubbed into Spanish.
In addition to television content, the app enables children to practice specific skills through puzzles, memory games and colouring. Adults can find articles of interest about topics such as parenting and early childhood education.
The new CBeebies app was developed by Playground Serious Fun for BBC Worldwide Latin America.
