“Super Wings” takes flight to the Americas

February 24, 2015 by TVA Editor

CJ E&M announced that its animated preschool series, Super Wings, has been sold to major broadcasters in the Americas including Sprout (U.S.) who will premiere the series on 14 March and Discovery Kids (LATAM) who will premiere in the second quarter.

These latest broadcasters are in addition to TV deals already completed for the series with Canal Plus’ Piwi+ (France), SVT (Sweden), YLE (Finland) and EBS (South Korea). Further TV sale announcements will be made in the near future.

Alpha Animation and Culture is the master toy partner for Super Wings and the newly formed Auldey Toys of North America, a subsidiary of Alpha Animation and Culture, will launch the initial U.S. toy programme with Toys R Us in October 2015 before a national retail roll out in spring 2016.

“We are very proud to be bringing Super Wings to the Americas in 2015,” said Jisoo Han, Head of Animation Business Division at CJ E&M. “The huge interest already shown in the property, indicates that things are really starting to take off for our little air plane hero!”

Super Wings features the adventures of an adorable jet plane named Jett, who travels around the world delivering packages to children. On every delivery, Jett encounters new problems that he must solve with the Super Wings, a group of awesome airplanes who can transform into robots with amazing abilities. The show’s curriculum focuses on issues of Creative Problem Solving and Cultural Diversity and the characters visit 52 cities in 45 countries over the course of the series (52 x11”).

Several renowned international production companies have joined forces to create Super Wings. The show is co-produced by FunnyFlux, QianQi, Little Airplane Productions, and EBS. FunnyFlux, the original creator of the show, is a Korean animation company best-known for the popular animation series Tickety Toc (Nick Jr. U.S.), while QianQi is a Chinese animation studio. Little Airplane is the acclaimed Emmy Award- winning creator/producer of Wonder Pets! (Nick Jr.) whereas EBS is the leading educational channel in Korea. CJ E&M holds worldwide distribution rights outside of Asia and the Middle East, and Alpha, China’s largest kids entertainment group company, is covering Asia and Middle East territories and is also the series’ master toy partner.

CJ E&M will hold special screening sessions for Super Wings at Kidscreen Summit 2015 in Miami.
