A young boy. A dream. A goal. Computer whiz Jonas Marra (Murilo Benício, Brazil Avenue) built fame and fortune in the Silicon Valley, in California, with his renowned technology corporation. However, at the peak of his success, a secret forces him to face conflicts that lead him to a new life and a new love. This is the story of the twist-and-turn Now Generation to be launched by Globo during Natpe 2015.
Set in California, Recife (Northeast Brazil) and Rio de Janeiro, with average ratings of 22 points and 41% share, and viewership of over 31 million people per day (source: Ibope), the plot shows that technology is here to change our lives forever. In Globo’s social media fans were avidly engaged in the plot’s final moments, praising their favourite characters and actors, as well as the telenovela’s production crew for the amazing script. Most users stated that they would dearly miss the Marra family. In addition, four terms relating to ‘Now Generation’ were on the list of the most discussed topics in social networks.
Jonas Marra is married to the great American star Pamela Parker (Cláudia Abreu, Belissima). Together, they spoil young Megan (Isabelle Drummond, Sparkling Girls), Pamela’s daughter. The couple is admired by the public and has a strong partnership that extends to business ventures. With a seemingly perfect life, Jonas surprised everyone by announcing his return to Brazil and the election of a business successor. A well-kept secret explains his return to the motherland, which influences these decisions.
For this super production, a crew of 30 people was based in California for two months and shot on location in San Francisco, in well-known places such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the Golden Gate Park, the Academy of Science, among other settings. The team also shot scenes in the cities of Monterey, the Laguna Seca racetrack, Carmel, and the Big Sur area. High-tech cars, electric skateboards, electric bicycles, drones and other gadgets made up the scenery – all this to create a modern and cool atmosphere for the scenes, which included a high-speed car race.
To Recife, which is one of Brazil’s major technology hubs, a crew of approximately 60 people travelled to the city and two trucks brought all art and set design material. All extras were local residents in order to ensure more loyalty and accuracy to the scenes. The largest sequence shot in the city, the Recife Online Technology Festival, lasted two days and featured around 400 extras.
The story features a cast of stars: Taís Araújo (Shades of Sin), Lazaro Ramos (Side by Side), and Renata Sorrah (Her own Destiny), among others.
