Broken Monsters
In a competitive bid, Endemol Studios-based Additional Dialogue has acquired the rights to Broken Monsters, the critically-acclaimed suspense thriller by Lauren Beukes, author of The Shining Girls, to develop a one-hour scripted drama series for television. Endemol Studios [(Hell on Wheels (AMC), Kingdom (DirecTV)] is Endemol Shine North America’s independent scripted studio operation based in Los Angeles, CA. This deal marks the first major book acquisition for Endemol-based Additional Dialogue. Scott Aversano and Tom Gormican will serve as executive producers under their Endemol Studios-based Additional Dialogue banner, with Jessica Matthews, vice president of development, and Lydia Storie, director of development, overseeing the project.
Aversano commented, “Beukes’s novel captures our culture’s fascination with horror. Her clever choice to explore this within the constructs of a supernatural novel – especially one which presents its own horribleness so elegantly – is a delightful paradox. We look forward to collaborating with her to produce this for Endemol.”
Jeremy Gold, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs for Endemol Studios said, “Lauren Beukes possesses a truly original voice. This novel is at once shocking, terrifying and lyrical. We are excited to collaborate with our terrific partners at Additional Dialogue to adapt her provocative work for a television audience.”
