Nippon Television Network Corporation (Nippon TV) announced that Parasyte – the maxim –, its latest animation that has been airing since only last October, has won the top award at the Young Choice Carnival 2014 in Beijing. Youku Tudou, the Chinese online entertainment platform that has been sponsoring the event since 2013, singled out the hit animation series as the “most popular animation among young people”.
Youku Tudou, which operates an online video streaming websites in China, sponsored the Young Choice Carnival to give recognition to the year’s most popular works in 22 genres that include movies, music, and animation. Youku Tudou determines the winners in the various genres by compiling and tallying the votes of Chinese viewers on its website, the votes of experts, as well as the most popular topics and most searched words among the Chinese youth over the course of the year.
Parasyte – the maxim – won recognition as it stood above the rest in the animation category for its high quality production, which is typical of Madhouse creations, as well as its captivating storyline and line-up of unique characters that include Migi.
Streamed only three hours after the Japan broadcast, Parasyte – the maxim – has become wildly popular in China, boasting a total of over 60 million views. It is being broadcast and/or streamed in 175 countries and territories around the world.
