Celestial Classic Movies launches on Astro

October 29, 2014 by TVA Editor

Hong Kong – Celestial Tiger Entertainment (CTE), the operator of the bouquet of pan-Asian channels dedicated to Asian entertainment, announced that its classic Chinese movie channel, Celestial Classic Movies (CCM), will launch on Astro, Malaysia’s pay TV platform and Kristal Astro in Brunei in November.

CCM will be made available on Astro and NJOI, reaching 4.2 million households in Malaysia and Brunei. To serve this broader audience and to ensure that its content is relevant to the audience, CCM’s movies will include Bahasa Malaysia subtitles.

“We are very excited to partner with Astro to bring Celestial Classic Movies to audiences in Malaysia and Brunei. With this carriage, CCM is now in almost every country in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, we are glad that Astro agrees with us on the potential of CCM, particularly the vast line-up of Kung Fu movies, to reach beyond the Chinese segment and cater to a broader audience in Malaysia and Brunei,” said Ofanny Choi, Executive Vice President, TV Networks, Celestial Tiger Entertainment.

Choo Chi Han, Vice President of Chinese Customer Business, Astro said, “As one of Southeast Asia’s leading content and consumer companies, Astro has constantly evolved its content proposition for our growing customer base. Leveraging on the strength of our longstanding relationship with CTE, we are confident that CCM will resonate among our customers especially those who enjoys classics. CCM will be available on our basic Family Pack starting on 16 Nov 2014.”

Launched in 2008, CCM presents Chinese movie masterpieces by tapping into the world-renowned and digitally-remastered Shaw Brothers Film Library as well as other Chinese movie libraries. CCM viewers will be able to enjoy timeless classics covering a wide variety of genres including Kung Fu and Huangmei Opera. Kung Fu movies featured will include iconic blockbusters such as The One-Armed Swordsman, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, Come Drink With Me, and Blood Brothers.

In addition to Malaysia and Brunei, CCM is also carried in 10 other countries, making the Celestial branded channels, the most widely-distributed Chinese movie service in Asia Pacific. Besides CCM, Astro also carries CTE’s flagship channels Celestial Movies, Celestial Movies HD and KIX HD.
