Stockholm based distributor Eccho Rights snaps up the rights to its first Scandinavian drama, Nurses. Produced by Yellow Film & TV, the show will premiere on Finnish broadcaster YLE later this year.
Nurses
Nurses deals with the professional and personal lives of four female colleagues who cope in different ways with the challenges of life on the trauma ward. With determination, strength and a black sense of humor they achieve the weird, challenging and amazing task of saving lives in a system that sometimes seems designed to do the opposite.
Millia Bruneau, COO/head of international sales at Yellow Film & TV, said, “We have seen that Eccho Rights has been successful with scripted series in the past and earlier this year we decided to work with them to distribute our successful entertainment series Comedy Combat. I feel great about our current and future partnership together and now we have decided that Eccho Rights will help us take Nurses to the international market.”
Nurses proved such a hit with commissioners that the broadcaster ordered more scripts before the first season even reached screens. The first two seasons will air back to back in the fall. Yellow Film & TV is developing scripts for a third season.
Ismo Silvo, media director at Finnish YLE, said, “Nurses is a highly intensive drama series that uses a unique combination of very emotional and modern narrative. The touching patient stories have been skillfully wrapped around the personal lives of the main characters. We have high expectations about the success of the series and after screening the episodes and testing them with the focus groups we have committed to ordering more scripts already.”
Nicola Söderlund, managing partner at Eccho Rights, commented, “Nurses has the potential to become an international hit. It has all the right ingredients: great characters, addictive story lines and it’s a returnable series that could be on air for years. Nurses is, simply put, a fantastic series. We are very proud to take it out to the international market.”
