Tokyo – This summer, NHK World Radio Japan will be bringing to its audiences a special programme entitled “Music Journey Worldwide (Ongaku yuuran hikou worldwide)”, a collaboration between NHK’s popular FM music programme “Music Journey (Ongaku yuuran hikou)” and NHK World Radio Japan, NHK’s international radio service. Together with Japanese MCs, 24 Radio Japan announcers from 21 countries introduce their unique cultures, traditional music, and the latest hits from around the world. The programme will be broadcast worldwide in 18 languages including Japanese through domestic FM radio and NHK World Radio Japan can also be heard through the programme’s website via streaming and free on-demand.

Session No. 1: Topic “Songs of home: close to the heart” summertime in your hometown

The first in the series introduces how Iranian men and women enjoy swimming at the beach regardless of being separated due to strict Islamic rules, Mexico’s “Day of the Dead,” which is similar to Japan’s obon, Japanese traditional event in summer and other stories. Nahid sings Fuyumi Sakamoto’s hit cover “Mata kimini koishiteru (I’m in love with you again)” in Persian, in duet with Hiroko Sakakibara.

Session No. 2: Topic “Exploring the world with food and music” power food to drive away the heat

This time we talk about summertime delicacies from around the world, such as regional dishes and wine-drinking know-how from Spain, and a soup mixed with soda served cold from Russia, a treat considered essential for this season.
