Singapore – Merlin Entertainments plc (“Merlin”) announced August 21 that in early December 2014, following a multi-million dollar investment, the history of Singapore will come alive with the re-launch of Sentosa’s well-known Images of Singapore which will be re-branded as Images of Singapore LIVE.
At the reimagined Images of Singapore LIVE, guests will embark on a journey to uncover the Nation’s extraordinary story from fishing village to 21st Century powerhouse, told through a unique mix of live actors, special effects and immersive themes. Images of Singapore LIVE will incorporate state-of-the-art audio visual technology and lighting, to create an almost theatre like experience for guests with other ‘wow’ factors including 3D projections of characters.
Guests will enjoy a journey through seven new highly immersive zones which will weave together the story of Singapore. They will have the chance to meet the everyday people and pioneers of Singapore across a period of nearly 200 years; from the storytelling fisherman in a Malay fishing village circa 1819 to a streetwise lamp lighter in Commercial Square 1893 to the theatre manager of the Jubilee Theatre at Raffles Hotel, during an air raid in 1941.
The final part of the journey will be a voyage aboard The Spirit of Singapore – a stunningly illuminated fantastical boat ride celebrating everything that is Singapore. This can be combined with a ticket to the new sister attraction Madame Tussauds Singapore to complete the experience and meet colourful legends and popular icons of both past and present. Images of Singapore LIVE will be housed at the existing Images of Singapore building at Imbiah Lookout on Sentosa island, next to the upcoming Madame Tussauds Singapore.
Experts were consulted and a huge amount of research was undertaken to present Singapore’s history as a joint-collaboration to ensure its accuracy and maintain respect to the characters showcased in the attraction, as well as commemorate the great people that built a great nation. This will be a truly educational experience for students, tourists, and Singaporeans to witness Singapore’s fascinating story develop before their eyes!
“We are thrilled that we are able to use our Merlin magic to enhance the popular Images of Singapore attraction, ahead of Singapore’s biggest national celebration to date – SG50. This will be a very special time for Singapore and we are happy to play our part in re-launching Images of Singapore LIVE into an exciting, contemporary, world-class attraction which can be enjoyed by both local Singaporeans and international visitors of all ages,” said Lily Lim, General Manager of Images of Singapore LIVE and Madame Tussauds Singapore.
As the attraction nears opening, Merlin is looking to hire a total of 80 staff to fill the roles of hosts and actors for both Images of Singapore LIVE and Madame Tussauds Singapore. This will be an exciting opportunity for Singaporeans to play their part in Singapore’s history and join a dynamic, creative and fun team of talents. It is also the only job opportunity available in the market which gives people a chance to interact with celebrities every day while they are at work. Auditions and assessment centers will be conducted in the months of September and October for shortlisted candidates.
