Sydney – The best of British content is now available for purchase and download on Google Play in Australia, Rob Leach, Director of Business Development and Consumer Digital at BBC Worldwide ANZ, announced at the Multi-Screen TV Summit in Sydney.
Australian fans can now purchase entire seasons for a range of BBC programs, including Doctor Who, The Musketeers, Sherlock and Frozen Planet, with prices starting at $2.99 for single episodes.
Additional titles, including programming from premium drama channel BBC First, will be released to the store on a regular basis.
Commenting on the deal, Leach said, “We’re delighted to offer Google Play customers access to a host of award-winning British content.
“Making the BBC’s content more widely available across digital platforms is key to our strategy, enabling us to broaden our reach, increase audience engagement with the BBC brand and deliver new revenue streams.”
Louisa Bayles, Head of Digital and DVD Sales, BBC Worldwide ANZ, who negotiated the deal added, “We want to give audiences a wide variety of options on how and where to view their favourite BBC shows.
“This deal means that Google Play customers will now have some of the best known and loved British TV brands at their fingertips.”
BBC Worldwide content is also available on Google Play in the U.S., UK and Canada and can be viewed on Android devices or via the Google Play app on iOS.
