Banijay Productions France, a Banijay Group company, and BBC Worldwide Productions France will co-produce the classic game show The Weakest Link for French DTT channel D8.
The new commission marks the return of the format to French screens after a successful six-year run on TF1. It will launch under the French title Le Maillon Faible, with well-known French journalist, TV and radio personality Julien Courbet (Sans aucun doute) presenting.
BBC Worldwide has licensed the The Weakest Link format to over 40 countries as far flung as Turkey, USA, Mexico, Malaysia, Azerbaijan and Australia. The UK version, which appeared on BBC Two and ran for over 10 years, has aired in over 70 countries worldwide.
Jean-Louis Blot, Director, BBC Worldwide Productions France, said: “We are excited to be working with Banijay Productions France on The Weakest Link. The partnership provides a great creative opportunity to revive this very popular show.”
Alexia Laroche-Joubert, Director, Banijay Productions France, said: “We are very proud to be able to bring The Weakest Link back on air with D8. In this new version, the presence of Julien Courbet will bring a touch of the modern to this fantastic format that the French public hasn’t seen for 7 years and which it will be pleased to rediscover.”
