Atlanta, USA / Bangkok, Thailand – The Weather Company announced a partnership with Thairath TV, the newly-licensed digital channel of the Thairath media group, publisher of Thailand’s biggest selling and oldest Thai-language daily newspaper on May 5.
“In launching Thairath TV, our goal is to take Thai audiences to a new level of broadcasting excellence supported by cutting-edge newsroom technologies, so working with The Weather Company, the world’s leading provider of broadcast weather services, was a natural choice for us,” said Vachara Vacharapol, chief executive officer of Triple VBroadcast Co., Ltd., which operates Thairath TV. “Anyone who witnessed the 2004 tsunami or the catastrophic floods of 2011 will appreciate why weather is such a vital aspect of life in Thailand, and yet it has been somewhat underreported in the past. Thairath TV intends to address that by expanding the breadth and depth of reporting of natural disasters, climate change and all forms of weather.”
Thairath TV is one of seven newly licensed digital news channels in Thailand, and launched on April 24.
Commenting on the agreement, Bill Boss, managing director, Asia Pacific, for The Weather Company, said: “We are delighted to launch weather services in Thailand with the Thairath group, one of the country’s pre-eminent media organisations, and we look forward to The Weather Company’s software solutions, know-how and experience playing a significant role in the success of the Thairath TV channel. Across the Asia Pacific region we are seeing a significant increase in the demand for timely, accurate, sophisticated and dynamic weather presentations. Media companies across the region are responding to this appetite for information, and The Weather Company is well placed to meet the needs of Asia’s broadcasters and audiences alike.”
This first broadcast agreement in Thailand by The Weather Company is another example of its global expansion through the provision of multi-platform weather services for broadcast, online, mobile and tablet media.
