Richard Finlayson, ABC’s Director of TV, has reinforced his commitment to put digital transformation at the top of his change agenda with the appointment of Rebecca Heap to the newly created role, Head of TV Strategy and Digital Products.
Heap will join the network on May 19 to spearhead ABC TV’s continuing digital transformation at a time of significant change in the media landscape. The appointment will see the digital and strategic planning functions brought together under the leadership of this new position.
Heap has held senior strategy and content positions both at Foxtel, where she was Director, Content and Partnerships, and Austar, in her role as General Manager, Strategy and Programming. Prior to joining the subscription TV sector she worked as a management consultant with internationally respected strategic consulting firm AT Kearney.
“My nine years in subscription TV has been fantastic and fostered a real passion for content,” said Heap. “I’m thrilled to be in a role that will combine TV strategy and digital products and feel privileged to be joining the ABC with its strong heritage, award-winning programmes, innovative digital assets and, most importantly, its unique connection with the Australian audience.”
Finlayson is delighted that ABC TV has added such a highly respected media executive to the team. “Her skills and perspective will be important as we position the ABC for an environment where increasingly, delivery of video content is via IP networks and the relationship with the audience is one-to-one,” he said.
“ABC TV has been a remarkable innovator in online video and is still the market leader with its iview platform and successful mobile apps. Now, it’s time to bring those skills into the very centre of our TV team and ensure we continue to adapt to changing audience needs,” he said.
