Hangzhou, China – Nickelodeon announced on April 29 that it has won the coveted “Golden Monkey King Award” for its award-winning Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at an awards ceremony that was part of the Tenth China International Cartoon and Animation Festival in Hangzhou. The iconic hit TV animation series received the highest honour at the festival.
At the awards ceremony, Rich Magallanes, Senior Vice President of Nickelodeon Animation was present to receive the award, who oversees production of current animated series including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness and The Penguins of Madagascar.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wins the Golden Monkey King Award

The “Golden Monkey King Award” is a prestigious award recognition at the China International Cartoon and Animation Festival, an event which is jointly supported by the Chinese government, animation industry and academia that recognises international animations shown in China, while developing the burgeoning Chinese animation industry. The award recognises the most outstanding original animation across the international animation industry. The “Gold Monkey King Awards”, supported by SAPPRFT, are given out to overseas and domestic animated series and animated films in China with SAPPRFT’s “permit films screened” licence. This is Nickelodeon’s third award in China as Dora the Explorer won the “Monkey-King Award” Committee Special Award at the 2011 China International Cartoon and Animation Festival, and won the Foreign Animated Series Award at the 2010 China International Cartoon and Animation Festival” for SpongeBob SquarePants.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a CG-animated comedy-action series, which breathes new life into the iconic characters of this wildly popular franchise. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles explores the camaraderie of four teenage brothers learning to rely on themselves and each other as they unravel the mystery of their existence and grow to become the heroes they are destined to be. With a strong storyline, characters updated with a new design, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was an instant hit when it premiered in the U.S. and in most parts of Asia in 2012. Since last year, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered in China across multiple platforms – on CCTV Kids’ Channel, Sohu video, and Tencent video, which has already sparked off a new generation following this iconic series. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie is expected to premiere in the third quarter of 2014.
