“Got To Dance” reaches 120 territories

April 9, 2014 by TVA Editor

Cannes – Shine International announced on April 6 that hit dance format Got To Dance has reached tape sales covering 120 territories, with UK judge Ashley Banjo attending MIPTV to launch new factual entertainment format Big Town Dance.

New deals for the UK’s Got To Dance, which features Kimberly Wyatt (The Pussycat Dolls) alongside Banjo, lead member of world-renowned dance troupe Diversity include Canada (GameTV) and Africa (MNET). Sky1 HD’s highest rated entertainment series, the hit dance format is in pre-production for its fifth series with the broadcaster and is produced by Princess Productions.

The tape deals follow previous acquisitions of the show from broadcasters including BBC (Latin America), SBS (Netherlands) and Fox International Channels across Asia. Seven local versions of the format include the Shine Germany produced ProSieben Sat.1 that features ‘Take That’ member Howard Donald.

Big Town Dance sees Banjo and Diversity strive to reignite the collective sense of community by inspiring an entire town to come together for one energetic street performance. Created and produced by Shine TV, it will be launched to the market by Banjo following a successful launch on Sky1 HD, achieving a 35% rise on the slot average.

In addition Banjo’s solo project Secret Street Crew (Shine TV) has also now reached over sixty territories including acquisitions by Italy (Discovery), Africa (Mnet), Denmark (TV2) and Norway (TV2). Local adaptations of the format have additionally aired in Denmark (TV2) and Norway (TV2).

Nadine Nohr, CEO, Shine International said: “The success of Got To Dance and Secret Street Crew internationally is testament to these high quality entertainment shows, and we’re delighted to be hosting Ashley to launch Big Town Dance at this year’s MIPTV. Big Town Dance is a show with real heart, and what each of these shows have is real universal appeal, captivating audiences with compelling stories and wonderful community spirit – its entertainment TV at its best.”

Ashley Banjo said: “I’m so proud to be part of all these fantastic entertainment shows and can’t wait to be at MIPTV this year. Got to Dance leads the way when it comes to big entertainment productions and the fifth series promises to be no different. Big Town Dance was my biggest challenge to date and I am delighted with the results whilst Secret Street Crew continually surprises me at what people can achieve if they really try.”
