“Beat the Blondes” to launch in China

February 7, 2014 by TVA Editor

After the successful launch of Celebrity Splash in the country, Eyeworks will see the second of its flagship formats produced in China in a year. 3C Media will adapt Beat the Blondes for the market and produce 13 episodes this spring for a selection of regional free TV channels in Jiangxi, Henan, Chongqing, Shanxi, Qingdao TV, and Hubei, with more to be added soon. The deal marks the first production of the hit format in Asia, and will be adapted to include beautiful women with long hair in the place of the blondes.

Beat the Blondes

Jeff Goldman, Co-MD of Eyeworks International Distribution, said: “The television market is thriving in China, and we are pleased to have our formats brought to life for the Chinese audience, who are hungry for quality entertainment programming. Beat the Blondes is a proven format, and this adaptation will surely entertain audiences in Asia as it has audiences across Europe.”

Xichen Liu, CEO/President of 3C Media, said: “We are very happy to work with Eyeworks in bringing this fresh and exciting quiz show format into China. In the adapted local version, we will have one male contestant competing with 50 long-haired beauties in two rounds of general knowledge battles. We are using long haired girls instead of blondes due to the traditional Chinese saying ‘Women’s wit does not match their long hair, thus women are short-sighted.’ We believe this combination of traditional culture and modern entertainment will make the show receive high ratings on all the regional channels across China.”

Beat the Blondes and its spin-off The Line-Up have already been produced successfully in ten countries, including Russia (RTR), Turkey (FOX), Germany (RTL II), Romania (Antena), Ukraine (Novy), Greece (Mega), Czech Republic (Prima), Italy (Italia 1), Bulgaria (Pro BG), and The Netherlands (Nederland 3).

In Beat the Blondes, one contestant goes up against 50 blondes to put the cliché about blondes to the test. The studio game show consists of two rounds of questions that will determine whether the contestant can Beat the Blondes and win the money, or if the blondes can out-smart the contestant and win some cash for themselves.
