Tel Aviv – Armoza Formats’ hit game show Upgrade has been commissioned by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV. The Chinese adaptation will air from October 2013 daily, for a run of 16 episodes.
Upgrade
This commission marks Armoza’s second deal in China in September 2013, following the recent co-development deal with Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation on the prime-time entertainment format I Can Do That, heading up Armoza Format’s offerings at MIPCOM.
Upgrade, created by Saar Brodsky, Rodrigo Gonzales and Gilli Golan, is hitting out throughout the world, with more than 12 territories airing the format, including Norway (over 150 episodes), Russia (six seasons), Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, South Korea, Czech Republic, India and Turkey.
The reality game show sees a celebrity host surprise families in their homes, and offered a chance to upgrade their belongings with brand new ones. But there is a twist, if they answer wrong, they risk losing the belongings they already own.
Avi Armoza, CEO of Armoza Formats, “We are thrilled to see Upgrade travel so well across so many different territories and cultures. The combination of a feel-good family show, with a unique twist and an easy production has proved to be a winning formula. We are eager to see Chinese families getting surprised and upgraded.”
