New York – The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the nominees for the 2013 Current Affairs and News categories. Winners will be announced in New York on October 1, at a ceremony at the Frederick P. Rose Hall of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The international winners will be honoured alongside their American news and documentary counterparts.
The 8 Nominees span 5 countries: Brazil, Germany, Romania, The Philippines and The United Kingdom. GMA Network (The Philippines) and TV Globo (Brazil) are nominated in both categories.
GMA was nominated under the Current Affairs category for I-Witness – Alkansiya (Piggy Bank) and under the News category for 24 Oras (24 Hours) – Typhoon Pablo.
“The 2013 Nominees reported on subjects ranging from war to politics to human triumph and tragedy,” said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “One of the programmes pays tribute to Marie Colvin and Remi Ochlik, who died during the war in Syria, and we join in honouring their memory and in recognising the courage of so many journalists who brave danger on a daily basis.”
