Google has announced that it has launched Chromecast -a wireless HDMI device that plugs into high-definition TV sets and allows movies and shows from platforms such as Netflix, YouTube and Google Play to stream from a laptop, tablet or Smartphone. Retailed at USD$35 and currently available only in the U.S., Chromecast works across various platform including Androids, iOS, as well as, its flagship browser, Chrome, for both Mac and Windows. Google plans to extend Chromecast’s line of services to include online radio service Pandora amongst many others in the near future. Chromecast is presently in its beta stage.
In line with the launch of Chromecast, the online search giant has also launched and developed Google Cast – a technology that enables developers to build consistent, intuitive multi-screen experiences across mobile devices and TVs. Google hopes to see the technology to be embedded in a range of hardware from its partners in the future.
