London – Top Chef, NBCUniversal’s Emmy-award winning cooking format, has been sold to more international broadcasters, with local versions to air in Indonesia and Spain. SCTV, Indonesia’s number one terrestrial network, will air 13 two-hour episodes in the third quarter of 2013. This deal marks NBCUniversal’s first format sale in Southeast Asia.
The Spanish version is currently in pre-production with La Sexta and will air in September this year.
With the addition of Indonesia and Spain, local versions of Top Chef now appear in 10 countries across four continents. In 2012, the format debuted in Portugal (RTP) and Romania (Antena1). The series is in its second, third or fourth season in France (M6), Middle East (LBC), Canada (Food Network) and Finland (MTV3), and has also aired in Greece (ANT1).
Sarah Cooper, COO for NBCUniversal International Television Production, said, “Partnering with two leading broadcasters in Spain and Indonesia for Top Chef is a testament to our clients’ high-regard for the format.”
Harsiwi Achmad, Director of Programming & Production, SCTV, said, “We are very excited to be collaborating with NBCUniversal to bring this Emmy-award winning culinary reality show to the Indonesian audience. Top Chef Indonesia will recognise the incredible culinary talent in this country and will serve as an inside look into our unique way of cooking.”
