Singapore – Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP) this week celebrates a milestone with Discovery Kids, marking a successful first year since launching in Asia in April 2012. The channel is now available to over 20 million homes in seven countries – Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong and India – with content offered in seven different languages.
During its first year of service, Discovery Kids also launched three original regional productions – Kids Vs Film (premiering on Discovery Kids’ Southeast Asia and Hong Kong feeds on June 1), Adventure 8: Zoo Games (which premiered in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong in March 2013) and Mystery Hunters India (aired on Discovery Kids’ India feeds in December 2012).
Discovery Kids offers a combination of educational and entertainment content to kids between 6-12 years old, with the core target audience being kids 7-10 years old. The channel entertains and educates children with content that sparks their curiosity and helps develop their cognitive, social, emotional and personal skills, bringing families together as many of the programmes are suitable for co-viewing with parents.
“Discovery Kids’ first year, guided by its ‘Smart Fun’ positioning, was filled with several achievements,” said Kevin Dickie, Senior Vice President, Content Group, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific. “We launched in April last year in India, Indonesia and the Philippines, and successfully gained market presence in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong. During that time, we also launched five additional local language feeds as part of our commitment towards providing strong, relevant content to our markets. We’re excited about the continued growth and success of this channel, which satisfies the natural curiosity and ignites the imagination among kids with stimulating and differentiated content.”
