ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) will launch ITV Studios’ entertainment format The Big Reunion (8 x 60’) at MIPTV. Originally commissioned by ITV2 and produced under Potato, Creative Director Michael Kelpie’s new ITV Studios’ production label, The Big Reunion re-unites chart-topping pop groups in a TV event. The series delves into the lives of former pop bands, exploring what happened after they slipped out of the charts in their home country and brings them back together for the first time since they split.
The cameras will capture the drama and happiness as each of the bands hope they can once again discover the magic that helped them adorn magazine covers, sell out multiple arena tours and top the charts back in their heyday. Each band will go through an intense training period before they step back onto the stage to perform once again in front of thousands of fans. The UK series climaxes in a concert special in which all six reunited bands perform their UK chart hits. A 14-date Arena Tour of UK and Ireland has been announced and deals for a concert DVD with ITV Studios Global Entertainment and compilation CD with Universal have also been agreed.
“Following the success of the ITV2 series it became clear that The Big Reunion would work as a global format. Each country has pop bands that have enjoyed success in the heyday and there is an enduring fascination to see what has happened to them. We look forward to launching The Big Reunion this MIPTV as part of our new format portfolio,” said Mike Beale, Director of International formats, ITV Studios.
