Oliver Herrgesell appointed SVP of communications at Turner Broadcasting International
Oliver Herrgesell has joined Turner Broadcasting System International as Senior Vice President of Communications, where he will serve as Turner Broadcasting’s chief communications and public relations executive in markets outside the U.S. He is in charge of developing communications strategy and overseeing execution of messaging related to Turner’s international business portfolio and industry position. In addition, he will work closely with President of Turner International, Gerhard Zeiler, and communications colleagues in U.S. to integrate and align on programming and other initiatives that cross the Turner Broadcasting portfolio.
“This position and Oliver’s professional stature reflect the importance of our international business interests,” said Jeff Matteson, Senior Vice President of Communications of Turner Broadcasting system – to whom Herrgesell will report.
Herrgesell will be based in London at the company’s EMEA headquarter with public relation staff in EMEA, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
AETN’s Asia GM moves to Discovery Japan
SINGAPORE – Discovery Japan, Inc. has announced that Louis Boswell will be appointed to the role of President & Representative Director. Boswell replaces James Gibbons, who has been appointed Country Manager for emerging business in Discovery’s Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa (CEEMEA) region, and will relocate from Tokyo to London.
As President & Representative Director, Boswell will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of Discovery’s business initiatives and growth in the Japanese market. He will also relocate from his current base in Singapore to Tokyo. Boswell will join Discovery from AETN All Asia Networks, a joint venture of A&E Networks and ASTRO All Asia Networks, where he was General Manager in Singapore.
Kim Dalton to leave the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)
Kim Dalton intends to leave as the ABC’s Director of Television in mid-February 2013, on completing seven years in the role. As Director, Dalton has overseen the transformation of ABC Television, creating new services, quality programming and different ways for the audience to engage with the ABC.
Dalton supported the establishment of ABC News 24 by the ABC News division and championed the creation of Q&A, an experiment in democracy that has encouraged Australians to participate in the conversation about important issues facing the nation. His commitment to factual programmes has seen the ABC develop a fine slate of documentary film-making on the ABC each year.
Dalton has also led a push by ABC TV into Asia. As Chair of the recent Asian Animation Summit he had steered the initiative to establish an annual regional financing and co-production event.
Yves Bigot appointed new CEO of TV5MONDE
The Board of TV5MONDE has appointed Yves Bigot as the new Chief Executive Officer of the French-language network after extensive consultations between its founding and shareholding governments. Bigot takes over from Marie- Christine Saragosse, who was appointed on October 7 as Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer for Audiovisuel Extérieur de la France, the holding company gathering the assets of the French government in French media broadcasting abroad.
Bigot has made a career in the world of media and journalism since 1973 as a journalist, presenter, director, scheduler and producer for television, radio and the written press.
His past tenures include top management positions at music label Phonogram (now Mercury) from 1994 – 1997, French public TV broadcaster France2 from 1998 – 2005, Belgian public TV broadcaster RTBF from 2006 – 2008 and Endemol from 2008 – 2010.
“Charo” Santos-Concio appointed CEO of ABS-CBN Corporation
Ma. Rosario “Charo” Santos- Concio has been appointed as new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ABS-CBN Corporation, effective January 1, 2013. The new position is in addition to her role as the company’s President and Chief Content Officer. Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III continues to be Chairman of the Board of ABS-CBN.
As President of ABS-CBN, Santos-Concio conceptualised strategies and solutions for the company’s growth. Prior to her role as President in 2008, she served as ABS-CBN’s Head for Channel 2 in 2006, Executive Vice President in 1998, Senior Vice President of TV Production in 1996, Vice President of Production Operations in 1991 and Director for Programs in 1989. She joined ABS-CBN as Consultant in 1987.
As programming executive and producer, she handled ABS-CBN’s leadership in the TV and movie market.
Jeff Zucker named President of CNN Worldwide
Jeff Zucker joins CNN Worldwide as President of the multi-platform global news enterprise in January 2013. In this role, Zucker will oversee a portfolio of 23 branded news and information businesses that include CNN/U.S., CNN International, CNN.com and HLN. Zucker will report to CEO of CNN parent company Turner Broadcasting System Inc., Phil Kent and will be based at CNN in New York.
Zucker started his 25-year career with NBC as a researcher for NBC Sports’ coverage of the 1988 Summer Olympic Games and rose to President and Chief Executive Officer of NBC Universal. He was named executive producer of Today in January 1992; under his eight-year leadership, the programme was the mostwatched morning news show and the most profitable programme on television. Zucker went on to executive-produce NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw and the network’s coverage of the Persian Gulf War, the 1993 and 1997 presidential inaugurations and the 2000 elections. Currently, Zucker is executive producer of the syndicated daytime show Katie.
