Dutch media company Talpa and Chinese media company Puji Star Media have agreed to a joint venture targeting the Greater China market. The new company, Talpa China Star, will aim at the production and utilisation of television formats from the Talpa catalogue.
The new JV combines the Talpa catalogue with one of China’s leading television production teams. The focus will be on producing local Chinese versions of Talpa formats. One of Talpa’s popular global formats is The Voice, which Star China produced earlier this year. The first season of The Voice of China was successful, reaching over 500 million viewers.
“We have done business in the Chinese TV market for several years now, but on a much smaller scale. Talpa formats like I Love My Country and Sing It are successfully introduced in China, which is proof for the fact that our focus on creativity and sharing production knowledge is being recognised in this vast country. The even greater success of The Voice underlines that. Our joint venture with such an important party as Puji Star Media enables us to optimally adapt and exploit our original format ideas in the very fast growing Chinese media market. So, this is an important step for Talpa in China,” said Pim Schmitz, CEO of Talpa Holding.
