MIPCOM 2012 will be welcoming internationally-recognised actors, directors, writers, producers and show business personalities, many of whom will grace the red carpet at MIPCOM’s Opening Night Party. Organised by Reed MIDEM, MIPCOM will take place in Cannes from October 8 to 11.
Golden Globe Award-winning actress Keri Russell (Felicity) and Welsh actor Matthew Rhys (Brothers and Sisters), both stars of the new period drama The Americans, will attend the gala screening of the show. Golden Globe winner Matthew Modine (The Dark Knight Rises), meanwhile, will be promoting his role as an exiled scientist called upon to save the world in CAT.8, an epic four-hour end-of-the-world miniseries produced by Muse Entertainment and distributed by Sonar Entertainment.
The X-Files‘ Emmy Award-winning actress Gillian Anderson will launch a new crime show The Fall, while The Walking Dead‘s Sarah Wayne Callies will present season three of AMC’s hit series, alongside star producer Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator films, Aliens, The Abyss). Producer/distributor Harvey Weinstein is also coming to MIPCOM to promote The Weinstein Company’s recently-launched international television sales division.
Jane Campion (The Piano), a Palme d’Or and Oscar-winning writer/director, will take centre stage at MIPCOM to present her new series Top of the Lake.
NCIS’s Michael Weatherly will join CBS Studios International in celebrating the 10thanniversary of one of the world’s most-watched television franchises. He will walk the red carpet alongside writer/executive producer Gary Glasberg (NCIS, The Mentalist), who will be also participating in a masterclass on Tuesday 9 October to discuss the secrets behind running a globally successful drama and what it takes to keep a series at the top after ten seasons.
Primeval‘s Niall Matter (Watchmen), Danny Rahim (East Enders), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural), and Saving Hope‘s Erica Durance (Smallville), Michael Shanks(Stargate: Atlantis) and Daniel Gillies (The Vampire Diaries), will also be present to launch their respective shows, while BBC Worldwide is bringing actors Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice, Spooks, Robin Hood), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones) and Adam Rothenberg (Tennessee) to Cannes to present the British period crime drama Ripper Street. On the cooking front, Nigella Lawson will be at the event to highlight BBC’s Italian-style cooking series Nigellissima.
Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund will also see Francois Arnaud (The Borgias), Michel Courtemanche (Walter 100%, Le Noel de Walter & Tandoori), Stefanie von Pfetten (NCIS), David Sutcliffe (Private Practice), Ricardo (Ricardo and Friends), Eve Landry (Unite 9) and Amber Marshall (Heartland) joining the international press during a breakfast on 8 October.
Finally, MIPCOM is welcoming its first-ever non-human walking and talking guest from British Channel 5’s The Gadget Show.
