Shanghai Media Group’s Dragon TV recently launched Asia Pacific’s largest reality show, Asian Wave, in Singapore.
Asian Wave is a singing competition that aims not only to create a platform of exchange for the region’s top singers, but also to discover a truly representative new Asian singer through stringent, professional-standard, realistic judging.
A panel of judges and viewers will choose Asia’s “Next Super Star” over the course of 20 rounds of rigorous competition. Contestants on Asian Wave are all new solo artistes and upcoming bands. In China, after qualifying rounds broadcast on multiple local channels, which attracted numerous musical celebrities, six finalists emerged. The next stage is the commencement of the regional Asian contest whereby artistes from Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and India compete with the Chinese finalists for the ultimate title.
According to the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the programme will be co-produced by Dragon TV with more than ten top Asian media partners and talent agencies including TBS and AMUSE in Japan, ASTRO in Malaysia, GMM in Thailand and StarHub in Singapore.
“Through the broadcast of music, Asian Wave encourages cultural exchange among Asian countries as well as allows the rich content of China programming to reach viewers overseas. We have high expectations of the progressive development of Asian Wave and look forward to it becoming a branded programme in Asia,” said MCC’s Managing Director, Melvin Ang.
The series will premiere in Singapore on E City on October 8 on StarHub. It will be simultaneously broadcast in other Asian countries including Japan, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.
