Live TV Gateways are the fastest growing sector of online piracy, a report commissioned by Google and PRS for Music has revealed. The report, which uses research conducted by BAE Systems Detica, has identified six business models of copyright infringement, namely: Live TV Gateway, P2P Community, Subscription Community, Music Transaction, Rewarded Freemium and Embedded Streaming.
Live TV Gateways predominantly offer links to streams of live free-to-air and Pay-TV. These sites offer above average levels of games and eBooks, as well as other content in lower proportions, according to the report. This sector experienced an average increase in global page views of around 61 percent in the 12-month period studied for the report.
Embedded streaming, however, which provides hosting for users to upload content and others to stream, saw a 33 percent global decline, the report revealed.
