Sony Pictures Television appoints new chief creative officer
Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has appointed Wayne Garvie as Chief Creative Officer, International Production. In this role, Garvie will be responsible for driving creative development across SPT’s global network of joint venture companies and its production studios outside of Los Angeles, turning locally developed properties into global formats and fostering co-developments across the group. He will report to Andrea Wong, President, SPT International Production.
Prior to this appointment, Garvie served as the Managing Director, International Production, for All3MEDIA. Before that, he was Managing Director for Content and Production at BBC Worldwide, where he was responsible for establishing the corporation’s global network of production companies, independent UK production ventures and international format hits such as Dancing with the Stars and Top Gear.
Celestial Pictures taps former SPT exec to lead distribution
Celestial Pictures Limited (CPL) has appointed Annie Yim as director for distribution, wherein she will be focusing on managing and distributing CPL’s extensive portfolio of movies and TV series, including the Shaw Brothers Film Library and new Celestial Pictures content, across multiple media platforms in the Greater China region.
Yim joins CPL after a long career at Sony Pictures Television (SPT). In 2007, she led all of SPT’s licensing and distribution efforts in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan in her capacity as Executive Director of Licensing. In 2010, she oversaw SPT’s distribution business in Southeast Asia.
Ricky Ow promoted to EVP, Networks, Asia for SPT
Ricky Ow has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Networks, Asia, for Sony Pictures Television (SPT).
In this role, Ow will continue to oversee the networks business across Asia and will expand his oversight by managing SPT’s two Korean joint ventures, AXN Korea and Animax Korea, as well as develop new channel opportunities in the region. Ow will continue to work closely on these businesses with George Chien, Senior Vice President, Networks, Asia, SPT.
Most recently, Ow served as Senior Vice President and General Manager, Networks, Asia, overseeing the company’s channel brands; including AXN India and ANIMAX India. He joined SPT in 1999 as the head of sales and marketing for AXN which, under his leadership, had become the number one English language general entertainment channel in Asia.
Ruth Clarke joins ITV Studios Global Entertainment
ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has announced that Ruth Clarke has been appointed Director of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. Reporting to Maria Kyriacou, Managing Director of ITVS GE, Clarke will be responsible for overseeing ITVS GE’s acquisition and co-production strategy, contributing to international growth through partnerships with ITV Studios and external producers worldwide.
Prior to joining ITVS GE, Clarke was the SVP, Head of EMEA, for Shine International – the sales and distribution arm of Shine Group. Clarke was responsible for leading the distributor’s finished programming sales in EMEA and worked closely with producers to develop new opportunities across formats in the territory.
Endemol appoints Hincks and Calmels to Management Board
Tim Hincks, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Endemol UK, and Virginie Calmels, Chairman and CEO of Endemol France, have been appointed President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), respectively, of Endemol Group. Hincks and Calmels will report directly to Just Spee, who was appointed CEO of Endemol Group at the beginning of April.
As President of Endemol Group, Hincks will be responsible for overseeing the company’s operations in the US and UK, further building the collaboration and synergy between these key markets, as well as the creation and commercial exploitation of content across the Group’s worldwide network. He will continue to have responsibility for Endemol UK’s business as its Chairman.
Calmels, in her new role as COO, will be responsible for overseeing Endemol’s operations in the European markets of 12 territories including France, as well as further enhancing the Group’s efficiency. Calmels will have continued responsibility for Endemol France’s business as its Chairman.
MEASAT appoints new Vice President
MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. has appointed Anil Abraham as Vice President, Regulatory and Business Affairs. In his new role, Abraham’s responsibilities include overseeing the regulatory activities of the company, with a focus on strengthening the company’s relationships with local and international regulators. He will also be working with MEASAT’s business development and legal departments.
Abraham holds a Bachelor and Master of Laws from King’s College, University of London. He completed his Corporate Legal Practice Course at London’s College of Law.
