April 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of RMS Titanic’s historic sinking.
Throughout April, broadcasters across Asia will attempt to recount the
same tragic tale in their own (read: brand-defi ning) way. Hailing top
directors, award-winning screenwriters, impressive casts, mega budgets and
amazing visual effects; 2012’s Titanic extravaganza will testify to the power
of television – a REAL event becoming a television EVENT. Throw in a bunch
of Titanic reruns that will resurface like uncovered sunken treasure and we
will experience a common show-of-interest unparalleled in recent times.
As I pen this editor’s note, there is a sinking feeling (pun intended) that
sentiments for the upcoming market have begun to dip. With the Euro crisis
looming and no ‘promised land’ in sight, market participants are anxious,
and rightfully so.
It then pays to arm oneself with suffi cient market knowledge. Navigate
wisely to stay afloat.
This issue sets sail with the TV ASIA Plus staple – the Buyers and Sellers
guide to MIPTV. See if our sellers’ offerings match what buyers are
looking for.
Along the way, a regional channel gets a makeover, a major network
announces the construction of a themed waterpark, and promises of new
and exciting deals remind us that as sure as a 100-year-old sunken vessel
will ‘arise,’ a perennial market can still stay afl oat!
Here’s wishing everyone every success at the market by the sea.
