FOX International Channels buys The Hunger Games for FOX Movies Premium in Asia
FOX International Channels (FIC) announced today that it has secured the pay television rights for Lionsgate’s feature film The Hunger Games, to be aired on the network’s leading movie channel, FOX Movies Premium, across Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. The highly anticipated film broke box office records when it opened around the world and is expected to be one of the highest grossing movies of the year.
The film is estimated to have grossed $155 million in its opening weekend in North America, making it the third highest opening weekend of all time, behind only Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows part 2 and The Dark Night. The gross also constitutes the highest opening of all time for a non-sequel film and the highest opening of all time outside of the summer blockbuster season.
FOX Movies Premium has added The Hunger Games to its unparalleled lineup of blockbuster hits airing this year. The premium channel has become the home of mega-hits with enormous fan appeal around the world including Asia, such as The Walking Dead series and The Twilight Saga movies.
