BBC Worldwide’s Sales and Distribution business in Asia has secured a pre-sale for Frozen Planet with China Central Television’s (CCTV) Documentary Channel. Still in production, the 6x50min series from BBC’s world-renowned Natural History Unit, reunites narrator Sir David Attenborough with the award-winning team behind Blue Planet and Planet Earth, and features groundbreaking imagery as camera teams go deep under the ice, plunge into the heart of an erupting polar volcano, and get closer than ever before to the extraordinary species that inhabit Earth’s polar regions. CCTV previously collaborated with the BBC on the co-production of Wild China, which has now been licensed to more than 160 countries around the world. Pierre Cheung, BBC Worldwide Vice President and General Manager, Greater China, told TV ASIA Plus, “CCTV have been a hugely important partner for us in China for many years now, and we hope to see this exciting BBC Earth series become a huge hit for them.” Shot in HD, Frozen Planet is a BBC/Discovery/Antena 3 Television S.A./ZDF/Open University/Skai co-production in association with Discovery Canada. It is expected to air in the UK in October.
