Venevision’s telenovela Eva Luna is being trimmed to a 26-episode series edition to be marketed in the Asian region. The popular drama, shot in HD, originally spans 114-episodes. Miguel Somoza, Sales Director for Venevision International said this shortened edition is being specifically made for the Asian market, “We think we have a superb product that will travel well throughout the region”, he said. Somoza added Eva Luna’s recut is no easy task. “Telenovelas generally have many subplots and it can get very complicated, so we’ve simplified it without taking away from the story in any way.” The idea to trim the series came from significant interest from broadcasters in Japan. Somoza said a 26-episode series works better with the programming blocks in Asia. It also opens the window to IPTV and DVD sales in the region. Eva Luna has been a star performer overseas. It broke records in the U.S, with an estimated 9.7 million viewers tuning in to see the final episode, according to Nielsen’s National Hispanic People Meter. The 26-episode edition is expected to be completed by the first week of July.
