Kuala Lumpur – National Geographic Channel, the Ministry of Information, Communication & Culture and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), in association with Astro launched A Leader’s Legacy: Tun Abdul Razak, an exclusive 1x 60-minute documentary, shot and produced in full high-definition (HD) revealing the personal story of Malaysia’s second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak, or fondly known as the ‘Father of Development’. For the first time, Malaysians will relive the story of the visionary leader and his journey to steer the country out of the dark clouds of racial strife on 13 May 1969. Tun Abdul Razak was the man who later became the captain of the nation and paved the way for Malaysia’s future development. In celebration of Malaysia’s 53rd Independence Day, the documentary premiered exclusively on National Geographic Channel (Astro Channel 553) on 24 August 2010 at 9.00 pm (Malaysia) with repeats on Independence Day (31 August 2010 at 9.00 pm), 5 September 2010 at 9.00 pm as well as on Malaysia Day (16 September 2010 at 9.00 pm). “We are pleased that our partnership with the Ministry of Information, Communication & Culture, FINAS and Astro has resulted in another powerful documentary that reveals the little-known facts about one of Malaysia’s visionary founding fathers, Tun Abdul Razak. Through this partnership, we are able to explore themes, issues and stories that connect with all Malaysian viewers. We are committed to our partners, as well as the broader filmmaking community in Malaysia to continue producing documentary films with exceptional quality,” said Basil Chua, director & territory head, Malaysia, National Geographic Channels. The documentary is directed by young aspiring Malaysian filmmaker Justin Ong, produced by Lina Teoh, and supervised by National Geographic Channel’s award-winning supervising producer Choylin Mok. In 2009, Ong had produced and directed Fight Masters: Silat, another made-in-Malaysia full HD documentary by National Geographic Channel and FINAS. The documentary will be available in Bahasa Malaysia and English language tracks to reach a broader audience, with a special guest presentation in Bahasa Malaysia by the iconic Malaysian newscaster, Wan Zaleha Radzi. The documentary draws interviews with Tun Abdul Razak’s family members, including his eldest son and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak. It also features the appearance of some of the most important people associated with Tun Abdul Razak’s success.
