(MEASAT) announced today that it had signed an agreement with GlobeCast Asia to provide transponder capacity for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. “This will be the first time MEASAT has been involved in distributing the FIFA World Cup,” said Terry Bleakley, Vice President, Commercial Operations, MEASAT. “The MEASAT-3 satellite located at the 91.5°E orbital slot has an excellent footprint and is the ideal platform to distribute content directly from South Africa to the entire Asia Pacific region.” GlobeCast will be providing a comprehensive array of services to rightsholders and non-rightsholders for worldwide distribution. Major broadcasters in Asia and around the world will receive satellite and fibre connectivity from the tournament. GlobeCast is offering a wide array of services to broadcasters from all over the world, including HD and SD SNG trucks and flyaways, international and domestic fibre links, studios, camera crews and playout for both domestic and international delivery via satellite and fibre. Clients in Asia include Softbank (Japan), Korea Telecom (Korea), TV Asahi (Japan), Fox Australia and RCTI (Indonesia). The World Cup 2010, FIFA’s premier international soccer tournament, is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa. This tournament will feature 32 countries playing a total of 64 matches.
