Cannes – The first ever original commission for the international CBeebies channel, Penelope K, by the way, is set to debut on April 26 in Australia. Penelope K, by the way marks BBC Worldwide Channels’ first international commission for the pre-school channel. Following its launch in Australia, the show will broadcast in the UK and across EMEA, Asia and Latin America throughout 2010. Starring Amanda Bishop (The Upside Down Show), the new live-action children’s series was developed by Sydney-based Blink Films and pitched to CBeebies by award-winning producer Michael Bourchier, creator of the hugely successful Upside Down Show. Selected from over 100 submissions following the launch of CBeebies’ inaugural local production initiative in Australia last year, the show was the winning entry against the brief for an upbeat, humorous series rooted in the real world, suitable for four to six year-old girls and boys.
