The Korean Pavilion at MIPTV, being held in Cannes 12-16 April 2010, will comprise 50 audiovisual companies ranging from terrestrial TV networks to cable TV broadcasting stations, production companies and distributors. Under the sponsorship of Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), business meetings will be conducted at stand #08.23 and #10.35, for export of broadcast content and animation, at the Korean Pavilion ‘Created by Korea.’
The 50 companies taking part in the Korean Pavilion at MIPTV this year will be the largest number in the Pavilion’s history. Enriched content such as drama, animation, documentary and reality will shed light on the creativity of Korea. Especially, the return of large scale drama and documentary catch the attention. The director of the mega hit MBC drama Jewel in the Palace, which has been exported to 60 countries, releases his new drama Jewel in the Crown, Dong Yi. This TV biopic traces the tumultuous life of Lady Choi Sook-bin, who was born as a lowly commoner but entered the royal palace to become a royal concubine where she shone ever so brilliantly.
Following its sensational documentary Tarbosaurus, the Mightiest Ever last year, EBS will release The Mammoth, Titan of the Ice Age. This documentary depicts the mammoth’s rise to prominence and fall to extinction by following the life of one of these majestic animals, Mammu, a mammoth born on the eastern edge of Asia.
NHC Media, an animation planning and distribution company, signs a $1.5million dollar co-production agreement on TV animation series EORI with a Malaysian production company Ed-Online at MIPTV. The 2D digital animation (7’30” X 78eps/ 30’ X 26eps) is edutainment content, targeting preschoolers. The two sides signed an MOA on co-production in last Jan. On the back of huge support from KOCCA and MDeC of Malaysia, this animation is expected to enjoy popularity in Korea and Southeast Asia and enter the global market successfully.
The Korean Pavilion is a must visit for buyers who are interested in formats given that the launch of MIPFORMATS this year for the first time in MIPTV is considered the most noticeable change in this year’s event. CJ M-net Media and Everyshow are also expected to be dedicated to the sales of their program formats. As a governmental agency, KOCCA serves as a gateway for content exports. KOCCA will launch various efforts at MIPTV by offering sponsorship for The International Trailblazer and assistance for MIPDOC Korean documentary screening and setting-up and operation of the Korean Pavilion.
