Taipei, Taiwan – Portico Media’s WOWtv bouquet of international channels that would officially launch on Chunghwa Telecom’s IPTV platform, MOD, in April 2010, was kickstarted by a special launch. Held at Shangri-La Hotel Taipei, it was a showcase of WOWtv’s refreshing potpourri of television channels with a wide range of unique content. WOWtv promises to inject some excitement to MOD’s overall channel offerings and increase its subscriber numbers. The WOWtv lineup includes 4 Universal Networks International channels – Universal Channel, Hallmark Channel, SCI FI and Kidsco, CNBC, and 2 European channels – Euronews and DW Asia+. More channels would be announced in the near future after the official launch. The WOWtv launch was well-attended by a cross-section of Telco executives, industry professionals, government representatives and diplomats, including the German and French General Directors, de facto ambassadors. Vanness Wu, a Taiwanese-American and one of the most recognizable faces of Taiwanese entertainment, made his debut as the spokesperson of WOWtv. Portico Media is helmed by managing director Jay Lin, a California lawyer who made the transition from Silicon Valley IP law to Taiwan’s media business 6 years ago.
