The main service provider on the island of Guam, GTA TeleGuam, plans to invest around US$10mn this year in its integrated communications network. The telco plans to make the investments to improve the reach of its IPTV service ‘GUdTV’, as well as to expand its 3G wireless coverage. The new investments are to be made in addition to nearly US$ 75mn which the company committed itself to investing over the past five years in order to reposition itself from being a government-run local telephone provider to becoming a competitive integrated communications provider. The telco is believed to now have around 5,000 subscribers for its IPTV service, from an island population of around 178,000, having launched the service 18 months ago.
