Fox International Channels (FIC) is committing more resources to the Philippines in an aggressive localization strategy. Company says that with Philippine-dedicated satellite feeds in place, this strategy will deliver more locally produced content and more locally relevant programming and advertising to the network’s fast growing base of cable households. The expanded local team is led by Territory Director Jude Turcuato, who joined FIC in June 2009 to build the network’s on-the-ground capabilities in the Philippines. Under the localization strategy, National Geographic Channel will commission local filmmakers to produce documentaries to the hallmark standards demanded by the channel. This follows Asia’s Titanic, the first documentary to be produced by National Geographic Channel in collaboration with a Filipino film production group, which premiered August 2009. In further developments, Star World, National Geographic Channel and most recently Star Movies, now broadcast separate content feeds to the Philippines.
