Malaysia – Telecommunications provider Maxis Communications Bhd will design, supply, commission and manage satellite broadcaster Astro’s next-generation network infrastructure. Astro’s next-generation network will integrate data, voice and video services on a single platform. The value of the contract is RM81mil over a period of five years, and Maxis will refresh the network equipment in Astro’s current voice and data infrastructure nationwide while deploying VoIP (Voice-over-Internet Protocol) technology. According to Phuah Aik Chong, director of information technology at Astro Bhd, the aim of migrating to a next-generation network is to provide Astro with an integrated framework to launch new offerings and deliver personalised services to its customers.
